Self-confessed killer gets 12 years for Trenton stabbing death

The man who stabbed 21-year-old Abraham Jeditoe to death in 2013 has finally been punished for his deadly crime.

Stanley Miller IV, 31, of Trenton, has been sentenced on Friday to 12 years of state imprisonment for fatally stabbing Jeditoe on Chambers Street near Trenton Central High School.

Miller pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and must serve 85 percent of his sentence behind bars before he can become eligible for parole, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

The homicide occurred on Aug. 4, 2013, and police arrested Miller two days later.

A grand jury originally indicted Miller on murder charges and weapons offenses, but the state dismissed the weapons offenses after he pleaded guilty to an amended count of aggravated manslaughter.

Miller and Jeditoe were acquainted with each other and were involved in a dispute when Miller launched the fatal attack. Jeditoe, a Hamilton resident, was pronounced dead at Capital Health Regional Medical Center shortly thereafter.

At the time of the slaying, Miller sported a pink Mohawk and matching beard.

Suspects in three separate murders reject plea deals, headed for trial

Suspects in three separate city murders, including the slaying of a retired cop’s son, were set up for trial Monday after they rejected plea deals with prosecutors.

Raheem Currie, suspected of driving the admitted triggerman to the killing of James Austin on Feb. 26, 2013, pleaded not guilty to a new indictment based on grand-jury testimony from shooter Robert Bartley.

Austin, 18, was the son of retired Trenton cop and U.S. Army combat veteran Luddie Austin. The shooting occurred following a running dispute between his son and Currie, who smashed each other’s car windshields. Currie is accused of running to Bartley after his car was smashed. His lawyer, John Furlong, said Currie didn’t shoot Austin in the chest and thought only that they’d shoot at the house that day, rather than Bartley walking up to the door to confront the cop’s son face to face.

Also opting for trial in a separate hearing before Mercer County Superior Court Judge Robert Billmeier was Stanley Miller, 26, who is charged with fatally stabbing 21-year-old acquaintance Abraham Jeditoe on Aug. 4, 2012.

Authorities said Miller and Jeditoe got into an argument as they walked along Chambers Street that morning and that Miller allegedly stabbed the victim in an artery high on his inside leg. Jeditoe bled to death in minutes.

Miller was represented by defense lawyer Robin Lord, who also handled the hearing before Billmeier for suspect Curtis Brittingham, 26, who is charged with stabbing Tito Glover to death during a fight outside a North Ward bar on Sept. 5, 2009.

Assistant Mercer Prosecutor Brian McCauley said Brittingham could get a prison term of five years if he pleads now to aggravated manslaughter for the stab to the back of Glover.

Last chance for that deal, Billmeier told the suspect after reminding him that he could get 37 years if he goes to trial for murder and gets convicted.

Lord also asked him if he wanted to go to trial in light of the plea offer and Brittingham said yes. He is free on bail for the killing as well his arrest soon after his release on drug and weapons charges.

Mohawk-wearing suspect indicted in 2013 stabbing murder

A murder suspect who was arrested sporting a pink Mohawk haircut has been indicted on charges he stabbed an acquaintance to death last summer.

Stanley J. Miller IV, 26, of Hamilton Avenue, Trenton, was indicted on counts of murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

On August 4, 2013, Abraham Jeditoe, 21, was stabbed in the back with a sharp object at approximately 8 a.m. while on Chambers Street. He died shortly after arriving at Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

Miller was arrested and charged with Jeditoe’s murder two days later, after detectives learned the two had been walking along Chambers arguing when the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the back.

Miller, who is free on the $500,000 bail set by Mercer Superior Court Judge Robert Billmeier, appeared for a video hearing wearing the pink Mohawk with a matching beard.

Pink haired suspect arrested in weekend stabbing

Sporting a pink mohawk and a matching beard, 26-year-old Stanley Miller was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly stabbing a man to death near Trenton Central High School during the weekend.

Abraham Jeditoe, 21, of Hamilton, was stabbed multiple times in the stomach on Sunday morning on the 300 block of Chambers Street, which is across the street from the school. He died within an hour after being stabbed at the Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

Authorities had a suspect identified on the day of Jeditoe's murder. Miller received his charges at Trenton Police Headquarters Tuesday night, Lt. Steven Varn said. Miller has been charged with homicide, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The two were acquainted with each other and were involved in a dispute when Miller allegedly stabbed Jeditoe, Varn said.

Jeditoe's death was one of four homicides this past weekend. Nyquan Owens, 21, died from a gunshot wound to the head on the 300 block of Brunswick Avenue early Saturday morning and later that night, Barry Church, 52, of Trenton and Hassan Allen, 22, of Trenton were both gunned down on East State Street. No arrests have been made in either case.

Woman struck by SUV during homicide clings to life

The Philadelphia woman who was struck by a wayward Chevy Blazer during a Saturday night shooting that left two dead remains in extremely critical condition, police said on Monday.

Carmen Wright, 23, along with a 22-year-old city woman, were both struck by an SUV driven by Hassan Allen, 22, who lost consciousness and later died at the wheel after being shot near the 1100 block of East State Street.

The 22-year-old is expected to make a recovery. Barry Church, 52, was also killed in the shooting and was found dead at the scene. An 18-year-old man arrived at the Capital Health Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds in his leg and ankle that were also from the East State Street shooting.

Church and Allen's deaths bring the city's homicide total this year to 27. The body count has been raising at an unprecedented rate with this year's mark surpassing 2011 and 2012's 24 homicides and quickly approaching the capital city's all time high of 31 in 2005.

Police are also investigating two other homicides from the weekend. On Sunday around 8:45 a.m., Abraham Jeditoe, 21, of Hamilton, died at Capital Health after being stabbed multiple times on the 300 block of Chambers Street, near Trenton Central High School. 21-year-old Nyquan Jones died early Saturday morning after being shot in the head on the 300 block of Brunswick Avenue. Police said at the time of his murder, that he was shot by an unknown black male.

Roughly a week before his murder, Jones was arrested on weapons offences charges. According to the criminal complaint against him that was read in Trenton Municipal Court on July 26, Jones was arrested along with three others following a traffic stop that led to police recovering a .357 magnum revolver.

Four killed in deadly Trenton weekend

The wave of violence plaguing Trenton's streets this summer reached a deadly peak this weekend, with four people killed and others left injured in three separate incidents.

The killing streak began early Saturday morning, with the shooting death of 20-year-old Nyquan Owens on the 300 block of Brunswick Avenue.

The violence continued with a crazed flurry along East State Street at about 11 on Saturday night, when 52-year-old Barry Church, believed to be an innocent bystander was shot to death near the corner of Olden Avenue.

Moments later, in what authorities believe to be a related incident, a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Hassan Allen crashed out of control a few blocks away, striking parked cars and two pedestrians.

The two young women struck by Allen's vehicle were hospitalized, with one of them listed in critical condition, while Allen, who was discovered to have suffered a gunshot injury, later died at the hospital.

An 18-year-old male also walked into a hospital emergency room around this time with a gunshot wound to his leg, and authorities have said they believe his injuries were related to this incident.

On Sunday morning, another wounded victim, this time the result of a stabbing on the 300 block of Chambers Street, was brought to the hospital.

The victim, identified as 21-year-old Abraham Jeditoe, of Hamilton Township, later died as a result of his injuries.
