Trenton man admits to 2013 slaying, others plead

If a famous author could visit the violence-plagued streets of New Jersey’s capital city, he might say, “Every man’s life ends the same way.”

In this case, it was 25-year-old Kayron Jones, who was gunned down in Trenton in 2013 by a group of men, including two friends, that planned to rob him. Things went awry.

The authorities believed at the time that gangs and drugs were involved, according to Trentonian archives. A grand jury returned an indictment against four men.

They pleaded guilty Wednesday. They’re headed to prison. Hemingway will serve the longest term under his plea deal.

He pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter Thursday before Judge Peter Warshaw and is expected to spend 20 years in prison.

His codefendants, Naquan Chance, London Feliciano, both of Trenton, and Quosheon Williams, of Lawrence, pleaded guilty to robbery. They’re headed to prison for 10 years, under terms of their plea deals, according to the county prosecutor spokeswoman Casey DeBlasio.

The four suspected gangsters were named in a 16-count indictment charging them with causing Jones’ death after a home invasion in August 2013.

Each was charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, burglary, aggravated assault and weapons offenses before they struck plea deals.

Cops arrived on an early summer morning at the Jones’ home on the 600 block of North Olden Avenue and found the service worker and amateur baseball standout Jones suffering a gunshot wound to his chest. He died at a city hospital.

The four suspects allegedly scattered across the country and were tracked down by U.S. Marshals.

Williams fled the state and was arrested and extradited from Surprise, Ariz.

Trenton detectives charged the four men after they obtained surveillance video and eyewitness accounts.

They are being sentenced Oct. 4, more than three years after Jones lost his life.

A Mercer County grand jury has returned a 16-count indictment charging four suspected gangsters with shooting Kayron Jones to death after invading his home at 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 13.

Mercer Prosecutor Joe Bocchini identified the suspects Friday as Anthony Hemingway, Naquan Chance, and London Feliciano — all 25-year-old Trentonians — and Quosheon Williams, 23, of Lawrence.

Each is charged with murder, felony murder, three counts of robbery, burglary, three counts of aggravated assault, and multiple weapons offenses, the prosecutor said.

It happened on an early summer morning at the home of Jones at 640 N. Olden Ave., where cops reported on word of gunfire. They found service worker and amateur baseball standout Jones, 25, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died soon after at a city hospital.

Trenton detectives built the case against the suspects with surveillance video and eyewitness accounts and arrested the four within days of the slaying. Gangs and drugs figure into the slaying, cops said.

Hemingway, Feliciano and Williams are in the Mercer jail on $1 million bail each. Feliciano is being held on $750,000 bail.

$1 million bail upheld for fourth suspect in home invasion murder

Quosheon Williams, the fourth suspect captured and charged in the Aug. 16 home-invasion murder of Kayron Jones, got no reduction in his $1 million bail from a judge Tuesday morning in Mercer County Superior Court.

Convicted robber Williams, 23, freshly extradited from a supposedly-planned vacation in Surprise, Ariz., was ordered back to his cell by Superior Court Judge Tom Brown, who held the hearing on video from the Mercer jail.

All four suspects in the murder of Jones, 25, inside his home on North Olden Avenue are now behind bars.

Assistant Mercer Prosecutor Stacy Geurds, who is handling the case with colleague Skylar Weissman, said investigators have yet to determine the motive for the murder.

Also charged and held on high bail Anthony Hemingway, Naquan Chance and London Feliciano, all 24 and from Trenton, who all fled the city but were caught and jailed within days of the killing by Trenton and Mercer cops and U.S. Marshals.

Williams told authorities he had gone to Surprise, Ariz., not to flee arrest, but on a planned vacation. Geurds said two of the suspects were friends, but that investigators still don’t know what triggered the alleged murder.

Morrisville, Pa., native Williams and Hemingway, of Karin Court in Princeton, were charged in 2009 with robbing and beating two Princeton University students after they left a borough bar.

Police said the students were beaten into unconsciousness early on a Sunday morning by robbers who waited outside taverns at closing time.

A police spokesman said the victims were followed to nearby Prospect Avenue, near the Ivy Club, where they were accosted. One young man was grabbed around the neck, dragged into an alleyway strangled, police said.

Williams served a year in state prison for the offense, after he pleaded to theft by unlawful taking in a plea deal with prosecutors, according to New Jersey corrections records. Hemingway cut a similar deal and served 15 months in state prison, and both were free by the fall of 2012.

Police investigating city's 30th homicide

TRENTON — With the city still reeling from a shootout on Hobart Avenue, another city man was killed during an early morning home invasion on Friday.

According to Trenton Police Lt. Mark Kieffer, 25-year-old Kayron Jones was shot once in the chest during a home invasion in the 600-block of North Olden Avenue at 12:32 a.m.

“Three black males entered the residence and shot the victim,” Kieffer said. “He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds.”

The motive is not yet known in the shooting and further description of the suspects was not available.

The 25-year-old’s death comes after two Trenton Police detectives were shot while they were transporting a domestic violence victim to her home on the first block of Hobart Avenue. Detectives Edgar Rios and Jim Letts — unaware the suspect returned home — were ambushed when 23-year-old Eric McNeil came out of the home and began firing his .38 revolver. The detectives then returned fire, killing McNeil. Rios was struck twice in the torso and Letts was struck twice, once in the right shoulder and once in the right side of his abdomen.

Both detectives were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center following the shootout for treatment. Rios was in his second surgery on Friday afternoon. Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph Bocchini said Friday afternoon that Rios was in critical but stable condition after undergoing additional surgical procedures. Letts was released from the hospital on Friday according to the Prosecutor.

Jones become the city’s 30th homicide victim less than a week after the death of Adelso Buendia, who was shot and killed in the city’s South Ward late last Saturday night. Police are still investigating his death.

Jones is the city’s 30th homicide victim, just one shy of the record of 31 set amid a wave of gang violence in 2005.

Jones' death is under investigation by Trenton Detective Ryan Woodhead and Detective Gary Wasko of the Mercer County Prosecutor's office. No arrests have been made.
