Trenton’s 21st homicide of 2013 was eight years in the making.
On Nov. 13, 2005, Omar Hightower was shot in the head on Walnut Avenue. He survived the with the bullet lodged in his head, which has caused him to have seizures.
On July 5 in Camden, Hightower died from a seizure caused by the bullet in his brain, First Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said. He did not have issues with seizures prior to the 2005 shooting.
The New Jersey State Police determined that Hightower’s death will be counted as a 2013 Trenton homicide.
At the time of Hightower’s shooting, investigators charged then 20-year-old Darrell Griffin with attempted murder along with aggravated assault and weapons charges. Currently, Griffin is one of two plaintiffs currently suing the city for personal injuries allegedly caused by Trenton Police.

After an hour-long standoff with U.S. Marshalls and the SWAT team in New Haven, Conn., city man Alton Jones is under arrest, according to the U.S. Marshals.
Jones, 21, was wanted by Trenton police for two separate homicides in June. He allegedly shot and killed both Rayshawn Ransom, 19, on June 12 and Tierra Green, 19, on June 15. Police announced that the manhunt for Jones on June 21.
“He went ghost,” Deputy Marshal Michael Schroeder said. “We’ve been working 20 hours a day on this case since the warrant was issued.”

A Burlington City man died Sunday afternoon following a shooting early Saturday morning in Chambersburg.
Garious Burton, 30, was standing at the intersection of Morris Avenue and Franklin Street when he was shot once in the forehead. Police said he was in extremely critical condition until he was taken off life support on Sunday, Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
Burton is the city’s 19th homicide victim this year. Two more people were shot during the weekend, with a man shot in the abdomen on the 300 block of Elmer Street on Saturday night and another man was shot in the back on the 1000 block of Greenwood Avenue early Sunday morning. The victims from those shootings remain hospitalized.

Rayshawn Michael Ransom departed this life on Thursday, June 13, 2013. He was born to Raymond Sr. and Michelle A. Ransom on September 15, 1993. Rayshawn attended the Trenton public school system. During his life he participated in many sports and hobbies such as basketball, karate, boxing and creating music. Rayshawn’s family and friends were his passion and joy. He enjoyed laughing and spending time with loved ones. He was a kind and giving young man who loved life. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by everyone that knew him. Rayshawn was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. In addition to his parents he is survived by his sisters Jaimeta (Ronald) McMullen, Sade Reed and Denise Ransom; his brother Raymond Ransom Jr.; two nephews LaShawn Douglas and Ezanie Jordan; his nieces Jaiela and Jaliya Jordan, Ameerah McMullen and Sanaa Syphax; his special friend Keaira Holt; an abundance of uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral Services were held Friday June 21,2013 and the interment was private.

Police have arrested a second man for the murder of Devahje Bing Wednesday afternoon.
Kareem McNeil, 22, of Trenton was arrested without incident on the 100 block of Oakland Street by the U.S. Marshals New York New Jersey Regional Task Force. He is charged with homicide, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Lt. Steven Varn said.

A pair on twins now stand accused of murder, with each twin being charged in separate homicides.
On Monday, the U.S. Marshals New York New Jersey Regional Task Force arrest Marquis Skillman, 27, in Trenton. He is charged with murder and weapons offenses related to the death of 19-year-old Rayshawn Ransom last week, Sgt. Tim Thomas said.
Ransom riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle on the 100 block of Passiac Street when Skillman allegedly fired numerous shots at the vehicle, striking Ransom in the head and chest. The driver of the vehicle, who was not injured, drove Ransom to an apartment complex on the 600 block of West State Street. Off-duty Trenton Police Officer James Mack then called for help. Ransom remained on life support until he was taken off of it.

The driver involved in the crash on the 100 block of Pennington Avenue is being held responsible for the death of 22-year-old Jamere Cullers.
Darryl Boone, 37, of Trenton, was allegedly drunk behind the wheel early Monday morning when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a pole, killing Cullers and left Boone’s other passenger injured. Police did not say if the vehicle Boone was driving was reported stolen, but it was taken without consent, Sgt. Timothy Thomas said.

A recent Trenton Central High Graduate was shot and killed while attending a party Saturday night.
Tierra Green, 19, died after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach on the 600 block of West State street. The shooting also left two others wounded. A woman who declined to give her name, but identified herself as a cousin of Green said she had been planning to go into nursing school.
“She just graduated and had plans for herself,” the woman said while waiting outside the trauma center at the Capital Health Regional Medical Center. “There’s no way she could have been the intended target.”

The two victims from Sunday’s shooting on the 400 block of Stuyvesant Avenue don’t appear to be the intended targets of the suspects, according to police.
“They were shooting in their direction, but there were others nearby,” Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
Police responded to the shots fired call at 8:45 p.m. and found 61-year-old Berkley McDaniel dead from a gunshot wound to the head and 51-year-old man wounded in the shoulder. A New Jersey Transit bus was also struck by gunfire during the shooting.

TRENTON — Police are investigating its second murder in five days and 13th on the year, police confirmed early Wednesday morning.
Police responded to a report of numerous shots fired on the first block of Cleveland Avenue around 12:05 a.m.
Officers arrived to find Hamibullah Hardy, 34, of Trenton, lying wounded on the porch of a home. TEMs arrived at the scene and tried to treat him, but Hardy was soon pronounced dead at the scene.
