Man found shot and killed in Spring Street Park

A city man who police say was part of a crew known as the “West Hanover Stickup Boys” was found shot and killed Monday in Spring Street Park.

According to law enforcement, early Monday morning police received a call reporting a dead body that was found near a bench in Spring Street Park. Police were then dispatched to the scene, where they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and he was later identified as 24-year-old Amir Hassan Glover.

Spring Street Park is located in the unit block of Spring Street, and it’s adjacent to Candlelight Lounge. Sources told The Trentonian that shots were fired in that area early Monday morning, and that a man who was struck during that shooting may have crawled under a tree where he was later discovered by someone who called police. At this time, though, police have not confirmed the time when the fatal shooting occurred. And police have not said whether there is a connection between the shooting and Candlelight Lounge.

Glover’s body was still lying near the park benches around 10 a.m. Monday as detectives processed the scene and searched for witnesses.

In November 2012, Glover was arrested and charged with a weapons offense after he allegedly tossed a revolver into the Delaware and Raritan Canal while running from police. At that time, police had been searching for Glover after he allegedly threatened the lives of two Trenton police officers in response to a police-involved shooting that killed a Pit Bull.

Police said at the time that Glover was part of a crew known as the “West Hanover Stickup Boys” that worked on West Hanover and Spring streets and had been “wreaking havoc” in the area.

So far this year, 15 people have been murdered in Trenton, which is one less than the number of homicides the city experienced by this time in 2013.

Glover’s death is being investigated by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.
